Obura unveiled as best bet to face Nyong'o in ODM primaries

Former East African community Chief Administrative Secretary Ken Obura has been picked to contest against the incumbent Kisumu Governor Anyang Nyong'o during ODM primaries.

This is after Kisumu Senator Fred Outa, former speaker Onyango Oloo and former governor Jack Ranguma resolved to throw their weight behind  Obura's candidature.

The four, who had teamed up in a bid to oust Nyong'o, said they have shelved their ambition and decided to back Obura for the sake of the electorates.

Obura will now battle out with Nyong'o for the ODM party ticket with his team expressing confidence that he will clinch the ticket.

The team however warned that should the party , fail to conduct a free and fair nomination, they have an elaborate plan  to field a candidate in another party aligned with the Azimio La Umoja movement.

They further said they had another candidate who will also face Nyong'o on an independent ticket if nominations are not done in a free, fair and transparent manner.

While accepting the endorsement at rally at Kisumu City's CBD on Friday, Obura pledged to set up issue based campaigns to defeat Nyong'o.

"By next week, I will officially start campaigns to sell our policies. We will conduct a door-to-door campaign to woo voters," he said.

The former Kisumu Central MP assured residents that he would initiate projects that will better their livelihoods if they elected him as the next governor.

Obura accused the Nyong'o led administration of destroying the livelihoods of small scale traders following the demolition of their structures in the city.

In my government, I will ensure the interest of traders, bodaboda operators and all residents are fully factored and protected," Obura said.
