Ex-BBC journalist appointed head of Tanzania's presidential communication

Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan has appointed immediate former BBC news anchor Zuhura Yunus as the new communication director of State House.

Ms Yunus takes over from Jaffar Haniu who will take up other responsibilities.

"Rais wa Jamhuri ya Muunganowa Tanzania, Mhe. Samia Suluhu Hassan, amemteua Bi Zuhura Yunus Abdallah kuwa Mkurugenzi wa Mawasiliano ya Rais –Ikulu," read a statement from President Suluhu

The renowned journalist left the BBC last month after 14 years.

She made history in 2014 when she became the first woman to anchor Dira TV news bulletin.
