Blow to DP Ruto, as two MPs ditch him for Raila's Azimio

Isiolo County MP Jaldesa Rehema and her Turkana East counterpart Ali Lokiru are the latest legislators to ditch Deputy President William Ruto's United Democratic Alliance ( UDA)party .

The lawmakers decamped from Tangatanga and pledged allegiance to the Azimio La Umoja movement led by ODM leader Raila Odinga.

Jaldesa announced her move to ditch DP's camp after a meeting with President Uhuru Kenyatta at State House, Nairobi, on Saturday.

She was part of the delegation of Isiolo leaders who met the Head of State in State House for deliberations on a myriad of issues that included security, drought and famine and the  2022 succession politics.

"Mweshimiwa Rais nataka nikuhakikishie ya kwamba kuanzia leo tutafanya kazi pamoja. Hiyo maneno ingine ya ile upande ilikua kwa sababu ya hasira," said Jaldesa.

MP Lokiru on the other hand announced his defection on Friday.

He said he had decided to move to the Azimio camp so that his people and the region at large can reap from development projects being fronted by ODM leader.

"Tunaangalia mahali watu wetu watapata faida. Kwa hivyo mimi niko Azimio. Si kubahatisha, nimeshaenda," he said while addressing a public baraza in his constituency.

This comes at a time, Mandera Senator Mohamed Mohamud affirmed his support for the Head of State and the ruling Jubilee Party.
