Derrick Kuto elected Kenya judges and magistrate's association president

Kibera Senior Principal Magistrate Derrick Kuto has been elected as the President of the Kenya Judges and Magistrates Association (KJMA).

He becomes the first magistrate to head the association.

Mr Kuto garnered a total of 290 votes against Justice Patrick Otieno who got 113 votes in the election conducted at Sawela lodge in Naivasha on Sunday.

Kuto who has been the association's Secretary General for two terms says he will remain steadfast in fighting for the welfare of his members .

“Time to work for our members is now. People have had a lot of confidence, people have given us so many votes, and I want to assure our members that my colleagues and I will not let you down,” said Kuto.

“We will work very closely with the Judicial Service Commission so that we address the welfare of our members. We will be willing to listen to those who are willing to give us advice for the betterment of our association. I want to assure all our members that we will stand for the unity and strength of our association."
