Woman sues Narok Senator Ole Kina over child upkeep

A woman has sued Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina over child support claiming the lawmaker has neglected his responsibility of taking care of their one-year-old son.

The woman identified as Esther Wanjiru Gatume demands a Sh 350,000 monthly upkeep from the first time lawmaker.

Through her lawyer Ojijo Senaji Advocates, Ms. Gatume is seeking an order to compel Senator Ole Kina to pay interim maintenance of Sh 250,000 pending the hearing and determination of the case.

According to court papers filed at Milimani Law courts, Ms. Gatume says they started an intimate relationship with the Narok Senator in 2019 that led to the birth of their son on October 22, 2020, adding that immediately after notifying Senator Ledama of her pregnancy, he cut off communication with her.

"When I conceived and realized I was pregnant, I immediately informed the respondent that he was going to be a father. But to my dismay and utter shock the respondents cut off communication with me,” laments the woman.

She claims that she informed the lawmaker when the child was born and requested him to take responsibility but he instead maintained silence.

“I was left with no other choice but to settle all the cost and bills during the pregnancy, scans, birthing without any involvement or assistance of the respondent," she says.
