Embattled Football Kenya Federation President Nick Mwendwa’s bond terms issued on Wednesday were extended for seven days pending a formal charge by the state.

Detectives from the DCI arrested  Mwendwa on Friday at Golden Tulips Hotel in Westlands and arraigned him before resident magistrate Wandia Nyamu and sought to detain him for 14 days to complete investigations into alleged misappropriation of funds.

The prosecution told the court that the suspect ought to be detained in order to prevent him from interfering with the investigation. 

He was also directed not to access his office.

The magistrate on Wednesday extended the orders for seven days and asked the state to formally charge Mwendwa within that period failure to with the case will be  closed.

“I agree with the respondent’s counsel that the state has not demonstrated compelling reasons to continue holding the respondent. I also find that the state acted not in good faith when police arrested the suspect,” the magistrate said.

Ms Nyamu said detectives were free to summon Mwendwa to aid in their investigations whenever they so wish.

Last week, Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed disbanded FKF and formed a caretaker committee to steer football activated in the country.


The caretaker committee is led by Justice ( Rtd) Aaron Ringera will be in office for 6 months until new FKF officials are elected.
