Kisumu County Government employee arrested over Kondele violence

Directorate of Criminal Investigations detectives on Monday arrested one person in connection with the chaos that erupted in Kondele last week during Deputy President William Ruto's three-day tour of the  Nyanza region.

Wilson Aminda, an enforcement officer in Kisumu was arrested after being captured on a video that has gone viral while chanting anti-Ruto's slogans alongside several unidentified youths.

Several  leaders have condemned the chaos urging Kenyans to exercise political tolerance.

Aminda is being held at Kondele Police station awaiting arraignment in court on Tuesday where is facing charges of incitement to violence and malicious damage of property.

Last week , Ruto’s convoy was stoned by a rowdy crowd in Kondele, forcing police to lob teargas. At least seven vehicles, including the DP's, official motorcade  were stoned.

However, no major casualty was reported from the incident.

The DP condemned political leaders inciting youths saying it was time to liberate Kondele from the hostile culture. He insisted that everybody is free to visit any part of the country.

He said, “The leader of ODM should stop using innocent youth to throw stones at other leaders because we have matured as a democracy. If it is stone-throwing, let them (politicians) be on the frontline with their children.”
