Former Laikipia North Mathew Lempurkel has been jailed for one year without an option of a fine by a Nairobi Court.
Milimani Principal Magistrate Hellen Okwani found the MP guilty of assaulting MP Sarah Korere in 2016.
While making her ruling, the Magistrate said the sentence will serve as an example to violent men who trample on women's rights with impunity.
Lempurkel was charged with slapping Ms. Korere at the office of the late Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaiserry at Harambee House in Nairobi on November 21, 2021.
Ms. Korere is currently Laikipia North Member of Parliament.
