Covid-19: Kenya records 26 new cases, 88 new recoveries

Kenya has recorded 26 new Covid-19 cases from a sample size of 1,346 tested, pushing the cumulative confirmed cases 
253,879 while the positivity rate stands at 1.9%. 

From the cases, 25 are Kenyans while one is a foreigner; 16 are males and 10 are females, while the youngest is a two-year-old child and the oldest is 85 years. 

According to the Ministry of Health, total recoveries stand at 247,458 as 88 new patients recovered from the disease. 

From the new recoveries, 83 were from the Home-Based Isolation and Care program while 5 were discharged from health facilities countrywide. 

Sadly, two more patients succumbed to the coronavirus, all of them being late deaths reported in October and November 2021. This pushes the cumulative fatalities to 5,314.

Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said, “A total of 403 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 1,077 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program.” 

Of the 30 patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 15 of are on ventilatory support and 15 on supplemental oxygen. No patient is under observation.

The CS added that another 113 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen and all of them are in the general wards. No patient is in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

A total of 5,691,050 vaccines had been administered across the country as of November 8, 2021 with 3,808,382 being the first dose and 
1,882,668 being the second dose. 

The government is working towards vaccinating a targeted population of 27,246,033, Kagwe stated.
