The Supreme Court has dealt a blow to Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko after it struck out an appeal case he filed seeking to stop Anne Kananu from being sworn in as Nairobi County Governor.
The Monday ruling means that Kananu can now be sworn in as the Governor.
The Supreme Court ruled that with the absence of the Appellate Court ruling Sonko's application fails to meet the threshold of the Constitution.
"The court, we conclude lacks jurisdiction to entertain the application,” reads part of the ruling.
Sonko wanted the Apex court to halt the swearing-in of Kananu as Governor pending the hearing and determination of his appeal.
In October, the Court of Appeal dismissed Sonko's case challenging the constitutional court decision that okayed his ouster from office in December 2020 forcing him to seek redress in the Supreme Court.
