Ronald Koeman has been sacked as Barcelona manager, the La Liga side announced on Wednesday.
Koeman was sacked after a humiliating 1-0 defeat by Rayo Vallecano that left Barca ninth in the La Liga league standing.
In a statement, the club attributed the dismal performance to the sacking of Koeman.
"FC Barcelona has relieved Ronald Koeman of his duties as first team coach,"
"The president of the club, Joan Laporta, informed him of the decision after the defeat against Rayo Vallecano. Ronald Koeman will say goodbye to the squad on Thursday at the Ciutat Esportiva.
"FC Barcelona wishes to thank him for his service to the Club and wishes him all the best in his professional career."
Barca has so far won two games out of the last seven under Koeman's reign.
Last Sunday, Barca lost to Real Madrid in the Classico clash at Camp Nou.
Former midfielder Xavi Hernandez is being touted as the favorite to replace Koeman.
