Bahati MP Ngunjiri listed in Kiambu forest land grab saga

Bahati Member of Parliament Kimani Ngunjiri is one of the people listed for illegally acquiring acres of land in Kiambu forest. 

According to documents that Environment Cabinet Secretary Keriako Tobiko presented to the Security Committee of the Senate on Tuesday, 14.5 hectares of forestland is owned by Ngunjiri. 

Former Limuru MP, Kuria Kanyingi, was also listed as owning 24 hectares which are currently divided into two and are partially developed. 

6.79 hectares of the forest are owned by Agropack Limited whose directors include Ngunjiri, Samuel Ndegwa and Ruth Muthoni. 

Tobiko added that the area that Ngunjiri owns was further sub-divided into four land parcels.

Pelican Engineering Company whose director is Maina Kamau owns 29.68 hectares of the forest land which it has already developed by building residential houses called Riverview estate while Kiambaa (Nyakinyua) Women Group owns 39.82 hectares. 

25 hectares of the forestland are owned by 
WibeoInvestments whose director is Mr Bedan Mbugua. The entity is currently undertaking cultivation in it.

The document presented by the Environment CS shows that 6 hectares of forest land are owned by faceless individuals whose identities the ministry said it has written to the registrar of companies to determine further details in the forest land grab saga. 

The appearance of Tobiko before the committee was in regard to over a petition to the Senate concerning the murder of environmentalist Joannah Stutchbury.
