Nairobi businessman Mukuria Ngamau has been fined Ksh 720.8 million or 27 years in prison if he defaults paying the fine for defrauding the Youth Enterprise Development Fund of Ksh 180 million.
Milimani Law Courts Chief Magistrate Douglas Ogoti also ordered Ngamau , the proprietor of Quorandum Ltd to compensate the Youth fund the loss of Ksh 180.4 million.
Ngamau who was charged for committing the offense on diverse dates between November 17, 2014, and May 4, 2015, was found guilty of five counts of corruption including unlawful acquisition of public property, conspiracy to commit an economic crime, and falsifying of documents.
His co-accused Bruce Odhiambo, the former Youth Fund Chairman and Catherine Akelo, the then CEO of the Fund have since passed away.
Doreen Waithera, the businessman's wife was acquitted of the charges after the court found she had no case to answer.
Ogoti dismissed the businessman's request for a non-custodial sentence saying that the sentence is dictated by the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crime Act.
The prosecution had lined up 31 witnesses.
