LSK president Nelson Havi announces exit

Law Society of Kenya president Nelson Havi has announced that he is ready to exit the position.

On Monday, Havi took to Twitter to announce his planned exit, adding that LSK will constitute an electoral board and approve IEBC to conduct the LSK elections next year.

He tweeted, “With over 20 Judgments against Government, advisory for dissolution of Parliament and stop of BBI we have done enough.”

Havi, who has had a tumultuous term, disclosed  conducting the LSK SGM on September 24, 2021 will be his last assignment.

On February 27, 2020, he was elected LSK president to serve a two-year term. The three candidates he defeated were lawyers Harriette Chiggai, Maria Mbeneka and Charles Kanjama.

Havi was the only candidate who had not served in the LSK Council. The president only serves a one two-year term as per the current LSK law.

The battle for control of LSK affairs between Havi and CEO mercy Wambua resulted to back and forth court cases and contributed to the challenges he faced during his term. Factions among officials of the LSK, as well as members of the society also emerged.
