Kenya has become the first African nation to back Tedros Ghebreyesus' bid for a second term as the Director-General for the World Health Organization.
The 56-year-old Ethiopian was nominated on Wednesday by Germany.
"Kenya supports continuity of exemplary African leadership at the helm of crucial global world health organization, and will work towards that realization,”Ministry of Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary, Macharia Kamau said on Twitter
His nomination however drew mixed reactions as Ethiopia allegedly withdrew its support for the former Health and Foreign Affairs Minister whom the East African nation has accused of funding the ongoing conflict in Tigray, his home region.
Traditionally the UN Health body's top slots chief are generally nominated by their home country.
Tedros is the first African to head the powerful UN Agency post.
So far, at least 20 European Union countries have backed Tedros second term bid.
