Covid-19: Kenya records 234 new cases, 492 new recoveries, 9 deaths

Kenya has recorded 234 new Covid-19 infections from a sample of 3,737 people tested, bringing the cumulative confirmed cases to 246,530 while the positivity rate stands at 6.3%.

The Ministry of Health stated, “From the cases 231 are Kenyans while 3 are foreigners. 118 males while 116 are females,” the Ministry said on Sunday. “The youngest is a four-year-old child while the oldest is 97 years.”

Total recoveries stand at 237,295 as 492 new recoveries were recorded. From the new recoveries, 452 of the recoveries are from the Home-Based Isolation and Care program while 40 are from various health facilities countrywide. 

Sadly, nine more people succumbed to the disease, bringing the cumulative fatalities to  4,989.

All the new deaths are those reported after conducting facility record audits in September 2021. 

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe stated that 1,433 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities across the country, with 3,246 under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program.

Of the 109 patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 77 are on ventilatory support, 25 on supplemental oxygen and 7 patients are under observation. 

Another 505 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 470 of them in general wards and 35 in High Dependency Units (HDU).

So far, some 3,351,109 vaccines have been administered across the country with the first doses being 2,492,173 and second being 858,936.
