Hakainde Hichilema has been sworn in as the seventh President of Zambia in a ceremony graced by over 10 African Heads of State including President Uhuru Kenyatta
Hichilema 59, took the oath of office on Tuesday before thousands of jubilant Zambians who had gathered at the Heroes Stadium in the capital Lusaka.
On his sixth bid for the Presidency Hichilema trounced incumbent Edgar Lungu by nearly one million votes in an election that has seen the Southern African country witness a third seamless transition of power.
Hichilema first contested for Presidency in 2006 when he took over the leadership of the United Party for National Development(UPND).

“It’s a new dawn. Time has come for all Zambians to be truly free,” he said to a cheering crowd. Promising to deliver a “united, prosperous and equitable Zambia.”
Kenya's opposition chief Raila Odinga was also in attendance.
