Makueni County Governor Kivutha Kibwana has defected from the Wiper Party to rejoin Muungano party through which he will seek presidency.
Kibwana secured his second term in 2017 as governor through Wiper party which he had joined after defecting from Muungano.
He also served as Chairman in the Kalonzo-led party but he has often clashed with Kalonzo Musyoka, making his stay difficult.
After the Makueni County boss had previously hinted at ditching the political party due to ideological differences with Kalonzo, he stated in February 2019 that people of Makueni granted him permission to leave the political outfit if he so desired.
Wiper wrote to Kibwana in July this year questioning his stay in the party after having allegedly undermined Kalonzo and his response showed that he was unmoved.
"Let them (Wiper) do as they wish. I cannot stop them from ejecting me from the party… If I’m no longer useful to the party, I cannot stop them from doing what they want,” he dared the party a day later.
Kibwana added, “There have been issues within the party, especially between myself and the party leader. I sat down with the people of Makueni and told them I could no longer be the (Wiper) party Chair and they said it was fine as it is not mandatory for me to hold that position in order to serve them.”
