Covid-19: Kenya records 1,506 new cases with a positivity rate of 15.3%

Kenya has recorded 1,506 new Covid-19 cases from a sample size of 9,840 tested in the last 24 hours, pushing the cumulative cases to 224,400 while the positivity rate stands at 15.3%. 

From the new cases, 1,473 are Kenyans while 33 are foreigners and 795 are females while 711 are males. 

The oldest case is 102 years while the youngest is a five-month-old baby. 

The Ministry of Health also stated that there were 1,538 new recoveries pushing cumulative recoveries to 207,450.

From the new recoveries, 1,352 were from the Home-Based Isolation and Care program while 186 were discharged from various health facilities countrywide.

Unfortunately, 24 patients succumbed to the disease, pushing the cumulative fatalities to 4,378. One of them in the last 24 hours while 23 are late deaths reported after conducting facility record audits in July and August 2021.

In a statement, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said, “A total of 2,054 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 8,408 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program. 161 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 86 of whom are on ventilatory support and 75 on supplemental oxygen.” 

“No patient is under observation. Another 783 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 723 of them in general wards and 60 in High Dependency Units (HDU),” he added. 

So far, a total of 2,154,825 vaccines have been administered across the country with the first doses being 1,393,905 while second doses are 760,920.
