Kenya has recorded 1,183 Covid-19 cases out of 8,144 samples tested in the last 24 hours pushing cumulative cases to 213,756 while positivity rate nationwide stands at 14.5%.
According to Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe, 1,318 patients were discharged after recovering from the disease raising total recoveries to 198,786.
Sadly, 32 new deaths were reported pushing the cumulative fatalities to 4,211. One of the deaths was recorded within the 24-hour reporting period. The rest were reported from facility record audits on diverse dates in April, May June, July and August.
Currently, 1,827 patients are admitted in various health facilities countrywide including 135 in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), the CS stated.
So far, 710,711 who have received their second vaccine while the countrywide vaccination program had reached 1.8 million people.
The government has delved into vaccination drive and its new directive requires all public servants to be vaccinated.
The Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua issued a confidential circular containing the new directive to all Principal Secretaries and Accounting Officers.
As per the circular, all public servants should get vaccinated by August 23 failure to which they will face disciplinary action.
In the memo, Kinyua stated, “It was also observed that some public servants have deliberately avoided being vaccinated so that they can stay from work under disguise of working from home. This has negatively affected service delivery to the public.”
