Raila Odinga receives COVID vaccine, urges Kenyans to get vaccinated

The Orange Democratic Movement ( ODM) party leader Raila Odinga on Friday received his first shot of the AstraZeneca vaccine .

Through his official Twitter handle, Raila called on Kenyans who are eligible for vaccination to turn up and get vaccinated.

"This afternoon I got the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine jab. Having been a victim of this deadly virus I urge all those who are currently eligible for vaccination to get vaccinated,"Raila said.

The former Prime Minister also appealed to the government to roll out mass vaccination.

"I appeal to the government to make concrete arrangements for mass vaccination once the vaccines land and, I also strongly encourage Kenyans to feel free to take the jab. We will overcome the virus!" he added.

The opposition chief took the jab just days after his close aide and ODM Director of Communication Philip Etale tested positive for the virus for the second time.

" I am battling the second attack of COVID-19, " Etale announced on his social media handle.

Raila is a survivor of COVID-19. In March he contracted the virus.
