The Orange Democratic Movement(ODM) Party has officially resolved to leave the National Super Alliance (NASA) coalition.
In a press briefing on Thursday, ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna said the decision was arrived at following a meeting of the party's National Executive Committee( NEC).
"The NEC also deliberated on question of resolution of the dispute regarding sharing Party funds with our former partners in the NASA Coalition and wishes to make the following observations…. The offer to make certain payments to our former partners was made on a strictly without prejudice basis because from a plain reading of the Coalition Agreement, we owe nothing to our partners,” said Sifuna.
“We still hold that NASA is the past. To further demonstrate this point, the NEC of ODM has today resolved to formally exit the NASA Coalition.”
The Nasa coalition was composed of the Chama Cha Mashinani led by Isaac Ruto, ODM led by Raila Odinga, Amani National Congress led by Musalia Mudavadi, Ford Kenya led by Moses Wetangula, and Wiper Democratic Movement led by Kalonzo Musyoka.
The move by ODM to leave the coalition comes just days after Wiper Party also left the coalition following the protracted feud between the coalition members over the sharing of the party's fund with ODM maintaining that it doesn't owe anyone anything.
ODM now says it will be embarking on seeking new partnership.
" The NEC has further deliberated on the future of the party and it needs to make new friends."
