Kenyan Olympics team settles in Japan,Kick-off training

The Kenyan Olympics team has already arrived in Kurume City, Japan for a pre-games training camp ahead of the Tokyo Olympic Games set to kick off on July 23, 2021.

In order to minimize the risk of Covid-19 infection while travelling to Japan, the team travelled in small groups of a maximum of six players.

Half of the women’s volleyball team and half of the rugby men’s team were the first to arrive. The other halves joined them 24 hours later.

According to Volleyball team Malkia Strikers’ coach Paul Bitok, despite the long journey from Nairobi through Doha, Qatar, the team has settled in well in Kurume.

He said, “We have been received very well in Japan, especially in Kurume City. They are very caring and have given us all we want. The facilities are fantastic, we are really enjoying it. We have even received new balls.”

“I think it is our time now to train for the next ten days and we hope to have the best training camp here in Kurume City,” added Bitok.

All team members underwent Covid-19 tests on arrival then they proceeded to the hotel where everyone was isolated until the next day when they were tested again.

No Covid-19 cases were reported in the Kenya team as no players and officials passed the test.
