Former South African President Jacob Zuma had finally turned himself in to the police to begin his 15-month sentence for contempt of court.
The Country's police spokesperson Lirandzu Themba confirmed in a statement on Wednesday that Zuma was in lawful custody in compliance with the Constitutional Court judgment.
The Department of Correctional Services in a separate statement said that Zuma had been admitted at Estcourt Correctional Center.
"President Zuma has decided to comply with the incarceration order,” his foundation said.
The court handed Zuma a 15-month sentence last week for defying an instruction given in February for him to give evidence at an inquiry into graft during his reign.
The inquiry is led by Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo.
