A mob on Wednesday night
ambushed and lynched a father and his son in Junju village in Kilifi in a case of mistaken identity attack.
The irate mob mistakenly believed the man, his son and the farmhand, who were on a mission to inspect a piece of land in the area, to be kidnappers.
According to eyewitnesses, the three were hacked to death before their car was set on fire.
Coast Regional Commissioner John Elungata confirmed the incident, stating that detectives intervened and arrested those behind the mob.
He said, “ I plead with Kenyans to exercise patience, these people who have been killed are businessmen, a father and son and their farmhand(Tunaomba Wakenya wakuwe na subira, hawa watu waliuawa ni wafanya biashara, mtu na mwanawe na mfanyi kazi wao) .”
Police have already arrested three people in connection with the killings and are probing them to identify others who are also to be arrested.
“We have arrested three people, locals have been helpful, and we shall get to the bottom of the matter,” the commissioner added.
