Ethiopia Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed's prosperity party won the most seats in the recently concluded Ethiopia's parliamentary elections, the election board said on Saturday, a victory that assures him of another term in office.
The June 21 vote was characterized by boycotts by the opposition, the war in the northern Tigray, and logistical challenges in three of Ethiopia's 10 regions.
The Abiy's led party won 410 of the 436 parliamentary seats, the election board deputy chairperson Woubshet Ayele announced.
Opposition leader Berhanu Neya of the Ethiopia Citizen for Social Justice Party ( Ezema) however cast doubts on the integrity of the elections revealing that he has filed 207 complaints after observers were blocked from accessing polling stations.
The election was the first test of voters support for Abiy who was appointed Prime Minister by the governing coalition in 2018.
