Covid-19: Kenya records 837 new cases with a positivity rate at 11.1%

Kenya has recorded 837 new Covid-19 cases from a sample size of 7,545 tested in the last 24 hours  pushing the cumulative cases to 191,020 and the positivity rate now stands at 11.1 per cent. 

From the new cases, 797 are Kenyans while 40 are foreigners and 435 are males while 402 are females. 

The youngest case is a three-month-old infant and the oldest is 94 years.

According to the Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe, total recoveries stand at 180,420 as 340 new recoveries have been recorded. 

From the new recoveries, 272 are from the Home-Based Isolation and Care program while 68 were discharged from various health facilities countrywide.

Sadly, 9 new deaths were recorded, pushing the cumulative fatalities to 3,746.

The Ministry's statement read, “A total of 1,058 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 4,407 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program. 129 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 38 of whom are on ventilatory support, 65 on supplemental oxygen and 26 patients are under observation."

Another 219 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 201 of them in general wards and 18 in High Dependency Units (HDU).

In the case of vaccines, so far, 1,590,765 vaccines have been administered across the country with the first doses being 1,033,296 while the second doses being 557,467.
