Covid-19: Kenya records 536 new cases, positivity rate drops to 8.9 per cent

 Kenya has reported 536 more Covid-19 cases from a sample of 6,036 tested in the last 24 hours,  pushing the cumulative cases to 188,513 while the positivity rate has dropped 8.9 per cent. 

According to the Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe, from the new cases, the youngest patient was four months old and the oldest 90 years, while 518 were Kenyans and 18 foreigners, 274 male and 262 female.

Total recoveries stand at 178,119 as the country has recorded 336 new recoveries. 

From the new recoveries, 236 are in hospital and 100 are from home-based care, raising the total to 178,119.

Unfortunately, the death toll stands at 3,721 as three more people have died from the disease. 

Currently, 1,092 patients have been admitted to health facilities countrywide while 3,982 are in the home-based care programme.

From the hospitalised patients, 120 are under intensive care, 39 are on ventilator support, 61 on supplemental oxygen and 20 under observation.

Another 202 patients were separately on supplemental oxygen, 184 of them in general wards and 18 in high dependency units.

So far, 1,538,340 vaccine doses have been administered across the country, 1,026,820 first doses and 511,520 second doses.
