Police disrupt recruitment drive by TSP leader Mwangi Kiunjuri

Police in Tharaka Nithi County on Saturday morning scuttled a meeting organized by The Service Party leader Mwangi Kiunjuri in Chogoria town.

The meeting was held at Kilimo Talii Hotel was attended by Former Tharaka Nithi Governor Samuel Rangwa among other political aspirants.

According to police, the gathering was contravening  the Ministry of Health COVID-19 protocols.


The officers lobbed teargas canisters as Mr Kiunjuri was addressing journalists outside the hotel.

Mr Kiunjuri condemned the disruption of his meeting, terming the police response as one that was politically motivated.

" The police have lobbed teargas canisters on us despite adhering to the required Covid-19 protocols,” said Mr Kiunjuri

He claimed that as his meeting was being disrupted, an unnamed MP was hosting a similar meeting with the protection of the local administration.


Kiunjuri further called on the government to stop using selective justice.


TSP kicked off the membership recruitment drive on Friday in Tharaka Nithi County.
