Over 700 persons have applied for the vacant position of four Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission ( IEBC) commissioners, the six-member selection panel said Tuesday.
The selection panel chairperson Dr Elizabeth Muli while addressing the press said the application window lapsed on Monday.
"Pursuant to the provisions of paragraph 3(1) of the First Schedule to the IEBC Act, 2011, the Selection Panel shall publish the names of all the applicants whose applications were received by the close of the application period, together with their qualifications, in the Kenya Gazette, in two (2) newspapers of national circulation and on the website of the Parliamentary Service Commission.” Said Ms Muli.
Dr Muli added that the panel will now review the applications before shortlisting and publishing the names of the applicants on Monday next week
The selection panel for the recruitment of IEBC commissioners who will oversee the next general election was sworn-in on April 28th, 2021 in a ceremony witnessed by Acting Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu
The panel is composed of Dr Elizabeth Muli( Chair) Awori James(Vice-Chair), Dr Faradun Abdalla, Elizabeth Meyo, Rev Joseph Ngumbi and Gideon Solonka.
President Uhuru Kenyatta had on April 6th declared vacancies in the position of four IEBC commissioners.
The four posts fell vacant following the resignation of commissioners Consolata Nkatha, Roselyn Akombe, Margaret Mwachanya and Paul Kurgat.
