Mombasa Governor Joho sentenced to 60 days in jail or Sh250K fine

A Mombasa court has sentenced Governor Ali Hassan Joho to 60 days in jail or a Ksh 250,000 fine for contempt of court.

Justice Munyao Sila while delivering the ruling urged leaders to set a good example arguing that violation of the law Isn't a show of heroism.

Justice Sila stated that despite the Governor being found guilty of contempt of court he showed no remorse.

" There is not much remorse in Mr Hassan Joho’s mitigation statement, his apparent lack of remorse is very perturbing to this court,” Justice Sila stated.

Governor Joho was charged alongside Changamwe MCA Benard Ogutu.

In addition to the fine,  the court directed that Governor Joho be held liable for any damages suffered by the plaintiff.

Meanwhile Changamwe MCA was fined Sh20,000 or 14 days in jail.

The county boss was charged with overseeing the demolitions of private property in breach of court orders.

He was sued by businessman Ashok Doshi.
