Martha Koome to be sworn-in as Chief Justice today

Lady Justice Martha Koome is set to take oath office as Kenya's Chief Justice at State House, Nairobi today.


A statement from the Judiciary said the CJ appointee will thereafter proceed to her office at Supreme Court.

"She will be received by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), the Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu, Chief Registrar of the Judiciary Anne Amadi, Supreme Court Judges and the Judiciary Leaders Advisory Council (JLAC), ”read a statement in part.


On May 24th, 2021 the Judiciary is expected to has an assumption of office ceremony to hand over 'instruments of power' to the new CJ.

President Uhuru Kenyatta gazetted the appointment of Justice Martha Koome after the National Assembly approved her nomination.

She becomes the first Kenyan female Chief Justice
