The Directorate of Criminal Investigations boss George Kinoti has refuted claims that guns acquired by Citizen TV journalists for an expose aired on Sunday, April 18th belonged to the police service.
In the expose dubbed ' Gun Galore,' the media house reported that rogue police officers were aiding in criminal by leasing their firearms and uniforms to criminals.
Kinoti termed the report as one aimed at "undermining efforts by the Natioñal Police Service, " accusing the television station of failing to accord the police a right of reply
" No effort was made by Citizen TV to reach the police service for clarity, "
" The report was a deliberate act of tainting the service's reputation." Said Kinoti.
The DCI boss further revealed that they had summoned Citizen TV's editorial team, to give more insight into the report.
" We have also filed a complaint with the Media Council of Kenya against Citizen TV, " he added.
The expose elicited uproar from social media users who called on the government to undertake an audit of firearms assigned to the police officers in the country.
