President Uhuru Kenyatta will have a face off with Deputy William Ruto in the upcoming Juja Parliamentary by-elections.
The position of former Juja MP Francis Waititu, who succumbed to cancer last month, is yet to be filled and the race to determine a replacement has already narrowed down to Jubilee vs UDA.
This translates to battle line drawn between President Uhuru and his deputy Ruto.
According to IEBC, the date of the elections is May 18 and political parties have until March 22 to nominate their candidates.
Reportedly, Jubilee is likely to settle on Waititu’s widow Susan Njeri who has already began campaigns.
It is believed that she enjoys support from Kiambu MPs so she has an upper hand in the nominations which will be held on March 29.
Candidates from the UDA Party had until Monday this week to submit their credentials for the poll.
Former CDF Chairman Ken Gachuma and Eunice Wanjiru, a relative of former Ruiru mayor Wilson Mugo are among the several potential candidates being eyed by UDA.
Although Ruto intends to establish a mark in a region deemed as crucial to his 2022 ambitions, Jubilee seems to have strong front as the party's mandarins have threatened to kick him out of the party for advancing a rival political party.
Should he campaign for a UDA candidate, it will be the last straw for President Kenyatta, who had threatened him to resign.
