Uhuru mourns former Kuria East MP Manga, media personality Lorna Irungu

President Uhuru Kenyatta has mourned the deaths of former Kuria East MP Shadrack Roger Mwita Manga and media personality Lorna Irungu, saying their deaths expands the list of progressive leaders that Kenya has lost. 

He added that the two exemplified the true meaning of service to mankind. Manga died on Thursday night while Lorna died on Monday. 

The Head of State shared a condolences message to the late MP Shadrack Manga's family, relatives and friends saying that his contribution to the socio-economic development of Kuria will be forever cherished by Kenya and the residents of the region. 

According to Uhuru, the late Manga was a consummate debater who was instrumental in the enrichment of legislation agenda and parliamentary oversight of Kenya. 

He added that the late MP was passionate about defending public interest as he championed for better laws aimed at improving the livelihoods of Kenya. 

The President said, “I remember his commitment and devotion in creating a better environment for our people to participate in economic development when he was a member of  Parliamentary Committee on Finance, Planning and Trade. Indeed, he was a focused and committed public servant who will be remembered for his wise counsel and steadfast leadership.” 

“We have lost a brave leader whose contribution to the country’s economic growth will be remembered for generations to come,” he added. 

He prayed for strength and fortitude for Manga's family as they go through this period of sorrow. 

President Uhuru also shared a separate message of condolences to the late Lorna Irungu's family, friends and relatives, describing her as an outstanding citizen who used her talent and influence to advance national interests.

He referred to the late Lorna as skillful and knowledgeable journalist who used her platform to promote Kenyan artists women’s voices in media and leadership.

The president remembered Lorna as an instrumental media personality who actively got  young people registered to vote, engaged women across the country to pass Kenya’s 2010 constitution, and passionately advocated for the passing of the Sexual Offenses Bill in 2006.

He eulogized, “I have known Lorna for many years and admired her fighting spirit despite the health challenges she faced. She is an inspiration to us all not to give up when things get tough.”

The president also prayed for strength and fortitude for her family as they go through these tough times.
