Situma supports former club Tusker to clinch league title

Former Tusker FC captain James Situma has backed the club to clinch this year’s Football Kenya Federation Premier League.

According to Situma, the veteran coach Robert Matano has brought in the experience and discipline that could be fundamental in the race to win the 12th title.

He said, “He is not new when it comes to winning this(title). He has done it with Sofapaka and Tusker FC before. He is very experienced and tactically gifted when it comes to winning big games that decide who is winning the title. With that in mind it gives them an added advantage in the race for the title.”

Situma won the league title with Matano while at Sofapaka in 2009 and with Tusker in 2016 under Sammy Omollo.

He pointed out that the level of competition in the team, which is at the top of the standings after 15 games, has been significant in the fight to be at the top.

“They is enough depth in their squad with some very healthy competition, that’s why they are able to rotate their squad in different matches that with the discipline of performance that Matano demands from his players to give their best, I think they are in a good position to win,” the former Kenyan international added.

Nevertheless, Situma admitted that other clubs in the top six pose stiff competition to Tusker FC.

He said, “This is a different season in the league; the level of competition has gone a notch higher and if you look at the recent results giants have fallen against average teams; it will take consistency and hard work plus enough depth in a squad to win games because as it stand any team in the top six can win the title.”
