Over 200 families rendered homeless after eviction

More than 200 families have been rendered homeless after security forces evicted them from  the Chepchoina settlement scheme along Trans Nzoia and West Pokot Counties on Saturday, March 6.

Reportedly, the eviction was against the law because the residents were ordered to vacate the land without being given adequate notice.

There have been ongoing disputes over the land between the government and the squatters who were allocated the land by the Agricultural Development Corporation.

Residents blamed the Trans Nzoia County County Commissioner for the eviction, claiming that they have court orders that protect them from any eviction.

One of the victims said, “The County Commissioner of Trans Nzoia has destroyed people's settlements without issuing an eviction order from the court.”
