In the last 24 hours, Kenya has recorded 713 new positive Covid-19 cases tested from a sample of 5,230, thereby resulting in a 14% positivity rate.
According Health CS Mutahi Kagwe, the total number of confirmed cases in the country is currently 110,356.
CS Kagwe was speaking on Wednesday during a joint press conference with the Council of Governors.
He also announced 12 new fatalities which have pushed the country’s death toll from the virus to 1,898.
Currently, the total number of recoveries is at 87,903 following the recovery of 167 patients in the last 24 hours.
The Ministry and CoG have urged Kenyans to be extra careful as the country navigates through a third wave.
CoG chairman Governor Martin Wambora urged President Uhuru Kenyatta to issue a 30-day ban on political gatherings to mitigate and further curb the spread of the virus.
He said, “We urge Kenyans to be extra vigilant as we deal with the third wave of the virus in the country.”
Wambora also urged governors across the country to ensure that they are vaccinated against the virus their respective counties as a way of leading by example
The CoG chairman added, “This Friday, I will be in Embu to lead the inoculation drive and I will be the first person in that county to do so, I urge my colleagues in other counties to do the same.”
