Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy has been sentenced to three years in jail for corruption.
Sarkozy 66, was found guilty of a violation of professional secrecy and influence peddling.
He was charged alongside a magistrate, Gilbert Azibert who he had bribe with a prestigious job in return for information about criminal inquiry in his political party and his former lawyer Thierry Itezong.
In the ruling, the judge in Paris said Sarkozy could serve a year at home with an electronic tag rather than going to prison.
The prosecution had sought a four-year jail sentence for Sarkozy
Sarkozy served as the President of France between 2007-2012 when his re-election bid flopped.
