Reuters tally: Covid-19 deaths in Africa surpass 100,000 after second wave

The Covid-19 death toll in Africa has surpassed the 100,000 mark as hospitals in the continent continue to be overwhelmed by the second wave of infections. 

According to a Reuters tally, Africa has reported 3,818,608 cases and 100,003 deaths so far. 

The tally shows that South Africa alone has 48,478 reported deaths and it accounts for nearly half of all the reported cases in the continent.
