Vihiga, Nairobi, Laikipia assemblies pass BBI Bill

Vihiga,  Nairobi and Laikipia county assemblies have become the ninth , tenth and eleventh assemblies respectively to pass the Building Bridges Initiative( BBI) constitutional amendment bill.

In Nairobi, 114 Members of the County Assembly voted for the bill.

Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja who was present at the assembly during the debate and voting exercise thanked the MCAs for a sober debate and for displaying a high standard of unity. 
 
"The votes have spoken, no one knows the price of unity better than a Nairobian, well done to the MCAs for a sound debate and telling Nairobi residents the benefit of the Bill,” said Sakaja.

On the other hand, ward reps in Laikipia voted overwhelmingly for the bill making the assembly the first in the Mt Kenya region to adopt the bill.

The bill needs at least the support of 24 county assemblies in order for it to move to the National Assembly.

So far, one county- Baringo has rejected the bill.
