Bandari FC on the verge of signing striker Umar Kasumba

Bandari FC is highly likely to sign former Sofapaka FC striker Umar Kasumba as the team closes in on the skilled footballer in its bid to bolster its striking department.

In 2019, Kasumba left the FKF Premier League side for Zambia’s Zesco United.

He is currently training with Bandari FC and negotiations are at an advanced stage.

Bandari team manager Albert Ongari said they have submitted their request to their sponsors Kenya Ports Authority awaiting confirmation before unveiling the Ugandan striker.

Ongari said, “We are in the final stages of the deal and our sponsor’s response will finalize everything.”

According to Bandari coach Andre Casa Mbungo,  William Wadri is the most reliable goal poacher in the team, scoring three goals in two matches.

He explained, “We need to capitalize on the chances we are creating if we are to match the top teams in the league.”

Kasumba, who has been without a club for almost a year, will battle for the first team opportunities alongside Congolese Yema Mwana and John Mwita.

When his signing is confirmed, the striker will be the club’s second signing in the mini transfer window after the club re-signed their former captain Felly Mulumba who has already featured in the last two matches, boosting the club with 6 points.

On Tuesday, Bandari will be looking to secure more points when they play host to Vihiga United at Mbaraki Sports Club in Mombasa.

The team is currently placed sixth on the 18-team league standings after 12 rounds of matches following the 2-1 win over AFC Leopards on Friday.
