Comedian Jasper Muthomi, popular known as MC Jessy, has raised concern following the notices he received from the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) over car parking fees.
Jessy said that he received the first notice as a text message on his mobile phone alerting him that he was to pay the parking fees required.
According to the notice, he risked severe action if he did not pay the money in 30 minutes.
He received another message after the 30 minutes lapse notifying him that he had been penalised for the offence.
The message read, “Dear motorist, Car Reg No. K** **** has not paid for parking and has been penalized Clamping Fees KES 2000.00. Pay KES 2200.00 to avoid Further Penalties.”
The notices puzzled the comedian as he stated that he had not parked in Nairobi CBD abd furthermore he was not within the city.
“How is this possible? I received a message that I am parked at Nairobi CBD While I was out of town? How is this possible? I was not in Nairobi! Who’s playing games with NMS Data?” Jesse questioned.
According to the Churchill Show comedian, the erroneous alerts must have been caused by a data breach or mix up at NMS.
Reportedly, various motorists have complained about the same issue.
One motorist, Judah Nzangi said that he received a notice to pay a penalty of Ksh 2,000 for defaulting parking fees in Nairobi yet his car was in Machakos.
Another motorist Keith Ayodo complained, “Why haven't they included a photo element to the reporting system? That way parking attendants can't raise fake parking fines. My car was home and they claimed I was in an industrial area. I have proof.”
