The Jubilee Party selected a team of five representatives to popularise Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) in the Mt Kenya region.
The team consists of Embu Women Rep Jane Wanjiku as secretary, Limuru MP Peter Mwathi as organising secretary, Kigumo MP Ruth Mwaniki as his assistant and the co-chairs, Kirinyaga Senator Charles Kibiru and National Assembly Deputy Chief Whip Maoka Maore.
The selection was done by more than 30 Mt Kenya MPs during a meeting held at the Thika Greens Golf Resort in Murang'a County on Saturday, January 9.
According to the legislators, the BBI initiative would resolve pertinent issues facing the country.
"Failure to pass the BBI would portend a bleak future. It will mean continued unfair representation and economic deprecation of our region." they stated
National Assembly Majority Leader Amos Kimunya chaired the meeting and he pointed out that those opposing the BBI bill were only a few elected leaders.
"Out of the 91 parliamentary seats just 15 were against the BBI and the rest continue to steer the region and country to a progressive path chartered by the President," Kimunya noted.
The selection of the five-man team follows the leaked letter written by Senate Majority Chief Irungu Kang'ata and addressed to President Uhuru Kenyatta, indicating that the BBI is bound to fail in the Mt Kenya region.
A recent survey by TIFA Research backed the content of the letter as it revealed that only 29 percent of Kenyans would agree to the BBI if a referendum was to be held today.
