The ongoing coronavirus pandemic forced local health officials to cancel the Coachella music festival that was to be held in southern California in April 2021.
The officials cancelled the celebrated outdoor event on Friday. Therefore, making it the third time it has been cancelled due to the the pandemic.
An order from Riverside County Health Officer Dr. Cameron Kaiser stated, “The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival and the Stagecoach Country Music Festival currently scheduled for April 2021 are hereby cancelled."
The decision was made in light of the efforts toward minimizing the likelihood of exposure to the virus.
Coachella, which is one of the biggest music festivals in the world, was scheduled to be held in
April 2020 but it was initially rescheduled for October 2020, and then again pushed to April 2021which is now cancelled.
The event brings about half a million fans to an open-air site in the California desert.
In the past two months, there has been a surge in coronavirus cases and deaths in southern California.
