Interfaith Council bans long services, New Year vigils

Interfaith Council has banned the traditional night vigils ushering Christmas and New year celebrations due to Covid-19.

While addressing the press at Ufungamano house in Nairobi, Interfaith Chairman Archbishop Anthony Muheria gave guidelines that will govern worship during one of the most important dates on the Christian calendar, December 25.

"During the festive seasons, we are used to more interactions both within the family and in the community. As the Interfaith Council, we are asking all religious leaders to take some time during the services in this festive period, especially on the weekend of 25th, 26th and 27th to sensitive and educate the people on the real threats of Covid-19,” Archbishop Muheria Said

He added, “Keep the worship sessions to 90 minutes. That means there should not be any ‘keshas’ during this period and even on New Year’s Eve as they have not yet been allowed,”.
