President Uhuru Kenyatta is set to deliver a State of the Nation Address in a joint Parliament sitting next week on November 12.
According to Article 132(1) of the Constitution the president is required to address a special sitting in parliament once every year.
In a statement National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi said
the president sent him a message on October 23, informing him about his intention to deliver the 2020 State of the Nation Address on Thursday, November 12, 2020.
Muturi said, ".. I wish to notify all Members that a Special Sitting of Parliament will take place on Thursday, 12th November, 2020 at 2:30 pm in the National Assembly Main Chamber, Parliament Buildings."
He mentioned that the arrangements to facilitate the special sitting are underway.
" ...and that the Speakers of the Houses of Parliament are making necessary arrangements to facilitate the special Sitting of the Houses of Parliament,"he added
This comes at the backdrop of preparations by the Head of State for a crucial meeting with governors to address the issues regarding the second wave of Covid-19 and how to manage it amid lockdown fears.
County chiefs agreed to reintroduce strict measures to curb the spread of the virus.
