John Allan Namu rushes ailing stranger to hospital

Media personality and renowned investigative journalist John Allan Namu rushed an ailing teenager to hospital.

The incident in which the teenager fainted occurred on Tuesday in Nairobi outside the Kenya Film Commission (KFC) offices located on Lenana Road.

The 19-year-old boy was unconscious after collapsing when Namu was passing through the area on his way to work.

The media personality stopped his car and offered to assist the teenager.

He said, "Someone had called an ambulance but it hadn't arrived, so we offered to take him to hospital."

When the boy regained his consciousness in the hospital, he revealed that he had gone without food for two days and he was job hunting.

He had walked to Lenana Road from the Pagani which led to his collapse.

Namu also shared that the boy has been taking care of his 10-year-old sister.

"Finally, we tried reaching the next of kin contact he gave us, a Lawrence Kimathi but were not successful. If anyone here knows him, please ask him to get in touch," he added.

ThecKenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) latest report in September 2020 showed that the rate of unemployment had doubled in three months from 5.2% to 10.4%.

The agency's latest quarterly labour force report shows that in the first quarter 961,666 were unemployed but in the second quarter the number rose to 1,841,918 unemployed Kenyans.

The age groups 20-24 and 25-29 has the highest number of unemployed people.

The Covid-19 pandemic is the main factor that has exacerbated the unemployment issue in the country as many Kenyans have lost their jobs during the period.
