Inter-faith council reviews Covid-19 restrictions for churches and weddings

The Inter-Faith Council for Covid-19 has issued new Covid-19 protocols for churches, weddings and funerals.

The Inter-Faith Council Vice-chairperson Connie Kivuti made the announcement on Thursday November 26.

Kivuti asserted, "The number that will be attending funeral services is 100 people with only 15 allowed at the graveside. The duration of the burial must not exceed one hour and no food served in funerals.

She further added, "Those attending weddings will be strictly 50 people, food will only be served for the nuclear family."

Church services must not go beyond 90 minutes and there must not be meetings other than the services within the church premises.

Kivuti reprimanded the public for dropping their guard on Covid-19 containment measures and politicians for endangering the lives of Kenyans.

"The political class is not focused on health crisis but on other political issues. The council has also noted with great concern that our communities are not adhering to the Ministry of Health guidelines," Kivuti said.

President Uhuru Kenyatta announced in September that the number of people allowed to attend weddings and funerals was raised to 200.

Churches with a 30,000 capacity auditorium were allowed to host up to 10,000 worshipers as long as the Covid-19 guidelines were enforced.
