A 3 year old baby was on Saturday shot dead by a stray bullet by a police officer who was trying to control protestors in Nairobi.
The fatal incident occurred when Githurai residents were attempting to lynch three suspected motorcycle thieves.
Police officers went to the scene to disperse the mob as they shot in the air and that is when a stray bullet hit the 3-year old girl and killed her.
The baby's mother, Pauline, was in deep pain when she spoke to journalists at the police station. She said all she wanted was justice served .
The distraught woman said, "I was carrying her on my back and I had gone to see what the commotion was about and that is when I felt that she had been shot."
Pauline cried painfully as she recalled the events that led to her loss.
Investigations are underway as the police officer who fired the shot that led to the baby's death has been arrested and his gun seized.
The baby's body was taken to Kenyatta University morgue.
The three suspected motorcycle thieves that the mob was planning to lynch are in police custody.
